HMIE Inspection Report

In March 2026, a team of HM Inspectors of Education visited Holy Rood RC High School. During the visit, they talked to parents/carers and young people and worked closely with the headteacher and staff.

The inspection team found the following strengths in the school’s work.

  • The headteacher, senior leaders and staff have developed and maintained a very strong culture of inclusion and belonging across the school community. Positive relationships across the school ensure a caring and supportive learning environment where young people thrive and are encouraged to achieve their best.
  • Staff use data very well to improve outcomes for young people. They carefully track progress, identify barriers to learning and put in place effective support when needed. As a result, young people are making very strong progress as they learn throughout the school.
  • Digital learning is a significant strength of the school. High-quality digital approaches engage young people in their learning both in school and at home, helping them build important skills for the future.

The following areas for improvement were identified and discussed with the headteacher and a representative from The City of Edinburgh Council.
