Extra Curricular

Pupils have the choice of a wide variety of extra-curricular activities. This varies each year and an example of activities are:

> Boys’ and Girls’ Football
> Dance
> Drama
> Eco Club etc..

Many faculties also offer out-of-school activities to enrich pupil learning, examples including:

> S1: John Muir Way & East Links
> S2: Mercat Tours – Edinburgh tourism experiences
> S3: Geography Loch Lomond Field Trip
> Theatre, Fringe and Book Festival

We also organise foreign excursions which are always extremely popular with pupils.

All pupils are required to return a KIC annual form in order to be able to participate in school trips. Forms are normally posted out in the summer holidays and we would ask for your help in ensuring that this is completed as soon as possible.

Active Schools

The fundamental aim of the Active Schools Network is to offer young people the opportunities and motivation to adopt active, healthy lifestyles, now and into adulthood. Active Schools Coordinators work with schools to develop an infrastructure to recruit, support and sustain a network of volunteers, along with creating strong links to connect schools to local community clubs, who in turn deliver extra-curricular school sport and physical activity that is free of charge before school, lunchtimes and after school. These effective pathways help provide high quality opportunities for all young people to take part in sport & physical activity.

Music Instruction

Holy Rood is most fortunate in having excellent music instructors. Your son/daughter will be given opportunities to learn a variety of instruments or continue their learning if they already play. The choice can include brass instruments, woodwind, guitar, piano, voice, violin and drums. Many pupils join the choir or orchestra and contribute to our splendid liturgies and musical concerts.
