Extra Curricular

Pupils have the choice of a wide varirty of extra-curricular activities. This varies each year, an example of activities are:

> Badminton
> Basketball
> Boys’ and Girls’ Football
> Dance
> Drama
> Eco Club etc..

Everyday at lunch time there are activities provided across the school. They attend in large numbers, with dancing particularly popular. Many faculties offer to enrich pupil learning, examples include:

> S1 John Muir Way & East Links
> S2 Mercat Tours – Edinburgh tourism experiences
> S3 Geography Loch Lomond Field Trip
> Theatre, Fringe and Book Festival
> Modern language immersion days

We also organise foreign excursions which are always extremely popular with pupils.

All pupils are required to return a KIC annual form in order to be able to participate in school trips. Forms are normally posted out in the summer holidays. We would ask for your help in ensuring that this is completed as soon as possible. The form can be downloaded below.

Active Schools

The fundamental aim of Active Schools is to give school-aged children the tools, motivation and the opportunities to be more active throughout their school years and into adulthood. These opportunities are available before, during and after school, as well as in the wider community.

Music Instruction

Holy Rood is most fortunate in having excellent music instructors. Your son/daughter will be given opportunities to learn a variety of instruments or continue their learning if they already play. The choice can include brass instruments, woodwind, guitar, piano, voice, violin and drums. Many pupils join the choir or orchestra and contribute to our splendid liturgies and musical concerts.
