Photography at Holy Rood RC High School

Photography plays an important part in everyones’ life. They connect us to our past, they remind us of people, places, feelings and stories. Photography allows us to dive into our creative faculty – it can channel your feelings in a moment of stillness.

Our NPA and Higher courses are practical and experiencial, candidates develop practical skills in photography and use photography in visually imaginative ways. Candidates are encouraged to be critically self-aware and also develop their appreciation of photographic work and practice.

NPA courses are practical and experiential. Pupils develop practical skills in photography and intuitively develop visually imaginative pieces. Pupils are encouraged to be critically self-aware and also develop their appreciation of photographic work and practice. NPA 5 is 100% coursework.

Higher courses are practical and experiential. Pupils develop practical skills in photography and intuitively develop visually imaginative pieces. Pupils are encouraged to be critically self-aware and also develop their appreciation of photographic work and practice. Higher is 77% coursework and 23% written exam.

Career Opportunities

Photography plays a huge part in our every day lives now with the development of digital technology. These courses can equip pupils with the skills and confidence to capture creative and original images with a purpose. Therefore, photography can be useful in a range of industries from hairdressing to advertising and from product design to architecture.
