Holy Rood RC High News
Here is this week’s update of recent events/news from Holy Rood, your Cluster Secondary School.
- We were honoured to host The Rotary Club of Portobello Young Musician of The Year Competition on February 7 and are delighted that out of the 19 entrants, two out of the four Holy Rood musicians taking part picked up first prize in their categories and secured their place in the area final to be held at Heriot Watt University on 15th Winner of Instrumental Category: James O’Donnell, Most Promising Musician: Agostino Crolla.
- The Scottish Youth Parliament promoted the importance of pupil involvement in elections and boosted the number of young people registered to vote when they visited Holy Rood and talked to pupils over lunch time.
- Our first ever Careers Fair took place on February 8 with 33 different organisations represented. In a vibrant atmosphere, pupils found out about employment opportunities from industry experts and learned about further post-school study opportunities from representatives from colleges/universities. Parents reported that it was an invaluable opportunity to help their children make positive career choices and the organisations represented were very impressed by our pupils and the way in which they engaged. By all accounts, a huge success!
- Holy Rood is hosting the second gathering of our Cluster Pupil Council representatives meeting on 9th Pupils from each Cluster Primary School will join Holy Rood pupils to deliver a short presentation on how each school promotes social justice and opportunity for all. Serving the Common Good is the theme for the meeting and it is taken from ‘Developing in Faith’, The Scottish Catholic Education Service document which provides guidelines for schools to support them in delivering the faith dimension of school life.
