Dear Parents/Carers

We wish all our families a happy new year!

So that all young people are ready to return to school, here are a few important reminders:

LFD Testing

We recommend that pupils participate in Lateral Flow Testing twice weekly.  Please ensure that your child does a lateral flow test before returning to school. This is offered to all pupils during school hours:

S5/6 Mondays                           S1, S2, S4 Tuesdays                  S3 Wednesdays
Please note that parental consent is no longer required.

Mitigations in School

At this time, we would like to remind you of the enhanced health and safety measures in order that you can discuss these with your children before our return to school

  • Hand sanitisers will be available at all entrances and throughout the school
  • Enhanced cleaning is in operation
  • Clear signage will be on display throughout the building as reminders to pupils (we have a one-way system in operation)
  • Pupils are expected to wear face coverings in school in classrooms and all social areas (unless eating or drinking or if exempt)
  • Face coverings are required on all transport

Face Coverings

It is vital that all pupils wear a face covering appropriately.  Please remind your child of the importance of wearing his/her face covering so that it covers both the mouth and nose.  Pupils must wear a face covering in classes and in all social areas, including corridors (unless exempt).  We remind everyone of ‘FACTS’:

  •  Coverings
  •  Crowded Places
  •  Your Hands Regularly
  •  Metre Distance
  • /book a test if you have symptoms

COVID Self-isolating Guidelines

A reminder that under the updated guidelines, if someone in your house is symptomatic, all household members must self-isolate until the PCR result comes back.  If it is positive, all household members are required to self-isolate for 10 days.  In this case, please contact school to let us know Admin@Holyrood.edin.sch.uk

Young Scot Cards

All pupils aged 11 and over are eligible to apply for a Young Scot Card.  It will be necessary to access free bus travel from February onwards. We ask you to encourage your child as it offers many benefits and discounts for young people.

Uniform

As we start a new year, a reminder that in Holy Rood, we expect all pupils to wear full school uniform.  This is an outward sign of the pride pupils have in our school, helps to maintain high standards and presents a very positive image of the school and our strong school ethos.  Replacement ties cost £5 and can be purchased from our school reception.  Below is a summary of our shared expectations for uniform:

  • Plain black school (not fashion) skirt or trousers
  • Black jumper/cardigan (no logos)
  • White school shirt/blouse (i.e. with a collar)
  • School tie
  • Plain black footwear, preferably shoes (no white or other coloured markings and footwear should be appropriate for school)
  • Dark outer jacket/coat (Blazers for S5/6)

Please note that jogging bottoms and jeans are NOT permitted.

Pupils who do not arrive in school uniform will be given items to borrow, which they can return at the end of the school day.

Safe Parking

All parents and carers are respectfully requested not to pick up or drop off their child in the school car park.  Parents are also asked to assist by not parking close to the school and you may be aware that there are double yellow lines/cycle lanes on Duddingston Road West.  Please park away from the immediate entrance to the school gates to avoid overcrowding.

You are respectfully reminded that due to the current circumstances, access for parent and carers will be restricted to maintain the safety of everyone and will be by appointment/invitation only.  If you wish to arrange a phone appointment with your child’s Year Head, or if you have a query, please contact the school.

If you have any questions or if we can support you in any way, please contact Admin@Holyrood.edin.sch.uk
