Dear Parents and Carers

With two weeks to go until the Christmas holidays, school is busier than ever. Whilst we endeavour to make this a period filled with festive cheer, we do not lose sight of the fact that we must continue to ensure learning and teaching continues and pupils remain focused in their lessons.  It was fantastic to see so many S1 parents and carers at the S1 Information Evening on TEAMS on Monday Evening and thank you for your feedback so far.  If you haven’t already done so, this can be communicated via the form:- https://forms.office.com/r/U4BMhi38rV

Here is today’s update:

Meeting with Interim Director

Last Friday afternoon I met with Julien Kramer, the Interim Executive Director of Education and Children’s Services.  In my presentation, I shared information about Holy Rood and all the amazing work we do to support our young people.  Julien was very complimentary about our staff and recognised the immense opportunities which we create for pupils.  Please also refer to the letter of introduction emailed to parents and carers by the new Director, Amanda Hatton.

S4 Prelims

S4 pupils have now completed their Prelims and have returned to full time classes.  Pupils should be congratulated for their behaviour and attitude throughout this period.

A huge well done to S6 pupils, Soha, Samuel and Jagoda who represented Holy Rood at the first pupil led Local Authority Virtual Equalities Conference on Wednesday this week.  It was a privilege to be asked to present at this conference and the pupils spoke about the activities which have taken place throughout the school this year in Holy Rood. We are very proud of them!

Advent liturgies are underway for all classes so that we reflect on the true meaning of Christmas.

The liturgies provide all pupils the opportunity to stop, relax, reflect, and take a quiet moment for prayer during this season of Hope.  We have three points this year, the Letter from Pope Francis to all people Called ‘Laudato Si’ focusing on ourselves as caretakers of the earth, the message of Advent to prepare our hearts for Christ’s birth in the world, and thirdly for each one of us to look closely at our own personal spiritual growth experience and journey.

Advent Fundraising

Our advent fundraising this year will be in support of the pupils’ chosen charity which is Talitha Kum (Human Trafficking).

Our pupils are engaging in a Tutor Time activity which involves teamwork and creativity.  The result is wonderfully decorated festive classroom doors – it’s such a delight to see everyone embracing this creative Tutor Time challenge!  Next Friday pupils can participate in Christmas Style Day if they wish. A piece of tinsel will suffice or more if pupils so desire.  On the last day of term, we will host our first ever virtual Holy Rood’s Got Talent Concert, with auditions next week, watch this space!

Next Parent/Carer Update

The next parent/carer update will be an extended Learning and Teaching SWAY so you can see some examples of the work which has been going on in school since October.
