Dear Parents and Carers

I am pleased to report that there has been improvement with late coming after break and lunch. We will continue to closely monitor this over the coming weeks. Late coming is hugely disruptive to learning and teaching and if this becomes a pattern could affect overall attainment.  If you know your child is going to be late for school, please get in touch with us.

Here is today’s update:

Catholic Education Fortnight 2021

Tuesday 16 November marked the start of the Catholic Education Fortnight. In RE pupils will be exploring this year’s theme which is Celebrating and Worshipping. Please see a link below with a very short message from Archbishop Cushley

Think Ahead Event

This week we welcomed our P7 Cluster pupils over three days to a “Think Ahead” Event. This was the P7 pupils first Transition Event and was coordinated by our DYW Coordinators. It was a hugely successful experience with lots of positive feedback from the P7 pupils and their teachers. We are very much looking forward to our Cluster pupils coming to Holy Rood.

Rock Trust Sleepout

A huge well done to the 39 S6 pupils and accompanying staff who survived the cold on Friday night and raised so much money for the homeless. The current total is over £2000 which is fantastic. If you wish to make a donation to this very worthwhile charity, follow the link:- https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/rocktrustholyrood

S1 Football Team Success

On Saturday, the S1 Football Team progressed to the second round of the Scottish Cup after a convincing victory against Newbattle High School. The team have won all their league games so far. Well done to all!

S4 Prelims – Monday 22 November – Wednesday 1 December

S4 parents and carers have been sent detailed information about the Prelims in a letter via email. A reminder it is vital that S4 pupils arrive at least 10 minutes in advance of Prelim Exams.  If pupils arrive late, they risk not being admitted to the exam. If for any reason, S4 pupils are late for Prelims, they should report to reception where the receptionist will contact Mr Lindsay or a member of the Senior Leadership Team to see if entry can be permitted by the invigilators. Please note that this mirrors the SQA exam diet conditions.

Supported Study/Study Club

Supported Study is underway for S4-6 pupils.  The S4 Study Club will run from 3.30pm – 4.30pm in the library on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  S1-3 pupils can also attend on a Tuesday. We provide bus tokens for those pupils who normally travel by school bus.  Please use link to see what is on offer in terms of extra-curricular activities  https://tinyurl.com/4kpx2s7r

Tracking & Reporting Timeline

Today you will receive our tracking and reporting cycle for this session.  This includes important dates particular to your child’s age and stage. We hope that regular information about your child’s progress will ensure that you are kept up to date about your child’s learning.  In Holy Rood, we are taking a rigorous approach to the gathering of evidence of progress which will continue to inform tracking and next steps in learning.  Pupils will reflect on their interim reports during Tutor Time and class teachers will be engaging in learning conversations to focus on next steps.
