Dear Parents and Carers
Visiting classes over the past week or so to share in pupils’ learning experiences has been a pleasure. The calm and focused atmosphere has been evident, with pupils well engaged in their learning. Extra-curricular activities continue to be very popular and some of our senior pupils have attended a COP 26 event in Glasgow.
I would like to ask for your support with the issue of late coming. This includes pupils arriving late for the start of the school day or returning late from break and lunch. Pupils are expected to arrive on time for 8.40am and are advised not to leave the school campus if it means they are late back after breaks. Please discuss the importance of arriving on time with your child.
From next week, we will be monitoring this closely and taking robust action to ensure that the message is clear to pupils, initially there will be a focus on pupils arriving late after break and lunch. Late coming is hugely disruptive to learning and teaching and if this becomes a pattern could affect overall attainment. If you know your child is going to be late for school, please let us know. Please note that on occasions when school buses are late, this will be taken into consideration.
A particular plea to S4 parents and carers. It is vital that S4 pupils arrive at least 10 minutes in advance of Prelims Exams. If pupils arrive late, they risk not being admitted to the exam. If pupils are late, they should report to reception where the receptionist will contact Mr Lindsay or a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
Here is today’s update:
S4 Prelims – Monday 22 November – Wednesday 1 December
With S4 Prelims only 10 days away, we are making sure that we are doing all we can to ensure that our S4 pupils feel ready for their first experience of a formal exam. We have allocated three study periods throughout the week with time form PE, RE and PSE. This week S4 pupils have all attended a Prelim Assembly, and as well as information on what to expect and how to prepare, pupils were taken through some excellent revision techniques by our School Captains.

S3 Parents’ Meeting
I hope you had a positive experience at the S3 Parents’ Meeting on Thursday 11 November. Please contact us if you wish to share any feedback.
Thank you to our S6 Leadership Team and Prefects who have started visiting our Cluster Primaries so that P7 pupils (our future S1) can find out about our wonderful school and all we have to offer. We are very much looking forward to welcoming P7 to Holy Rood for a “Think Ahead” Event next week.
Tracking & Reporting Timeline
In the coming week, we will be sharing with you our tracking and reporting cycle for this session. This will also include important dates particular to your child’s age and stage.
We hope that regular information about your child’s progress will ensure that you are kept up to date about your child’s learning. In Holy Rood, we are taking a rigorous approach to the gathering of evidence of progress which will continue to inform tracking and next steps in learning. Pupils will reflect on their interim reports during Tutor Time and class teachers will be engaging in learning conversations to focus on next steps.
Homework further consolidates learning and thank you for all you are doing to encourage your child to complete all homework activities on time.
