Dear Parents and Carers

It has been another busy week in Holy Rood.  Our School Captains have been leading Pupil Focus Groups as pupils in the junior and senior school reflected on their learning experiences.  Teachers have also been observing learning and teaching across the school. This has been really positive as it allows us to share good practice and to learn from each other so that we can offer pupils the very best learning and teaching experiences possible.

All Saints Mass

On Monday 1 November, we welcomed Father Jock, who celebrated Mass for the Feast of All Saints with a group of S1 pupils.  During the Mass, we celebrated becoming a Laudato si’ school. We celebrated Creation and all this means to us and we reflected about the “saints” in our everyday lives.

Laudato si’ School – What does this mean?

At the last Climate summit in Paris 2015, Pope Francis published his letter called Laudato Si’ (which means Praise Be).  In this letter he reminded us that climate change is about so much more than facts and figures and it’s about people.  Caring for our Common Home is an act of love for all God’s Creation and Pope Francis’s words have inspired people around the world.  The Pope asked that “we hear the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor”.  He asks us to love God, look after each other and protect the world – this had a profound effect with many world leaders at the summit quoting his words in their speeches in Paris.

In essence, laudato si’ echoes our School Mission Statement, what we seek to achieve in our relationships with each other and what we are called to demonstrate in our environment.  Our promise to become a laudato si’ school means putting our words into actions and think about how we can make a positive difference.  We want these changes to last, to be purposeful and sustainable, we want to form habits that will be with us for the rest of our lives, to change for good.  We will be working alongside our pupils and staff to ensure that we think about how our actions and behaviour can impact positively in our local environment.

COP 26 – What’s happening in Holy Rood?

Please find attached a brief update of what we have been up to in order that our pupils can learn more about COP26 and the potential impact of this event.
