Dear Parents/Carers

It’s been an exciting week with extra-curricular activities re-starting and lots of pupils actively engaged in various clubs and activities all over the school!  With 29 lunch time and 24 after school clubs/activities, the choice for pupils is incredible.  We are most grateful to our dedicated staff team who have volunteered to run our clubs and activities this session.  It’s thanks to the generosity and enthusiasm of staff and fantastic participating rates that the atmosphere around the school is so positive and vibrant!

European Day of Languages

It’s been all go in Modern Languages this week …. It was great to hear so many staff and pupils making excellent use of their language skills on Monday to celebrate European Day of Languages.  On Wednesday I was lucky enough to spectate at the semi-final and final of the pétanque competition with S1 pupils enthusiastically participating during their lunch time and a great crowd of supporters cheering on.  Thanks to all in Modern Languages.

S4 Parents’ Meeting Wednesday 13 October 4.30pm – 7pm

Parent bookings will open on Tuesday 5 October for one week.  S4 parents and carers should have received a separate email about joining instructions for the Parents’ Meeting.

S6 Leadership Opportunities

It is a testament to the commitment of our S6 cohort that 76 pupils have signed up to engage in voluntary service to the school either as a faculty prefect, pastoral prefect or S1 Buddy.  Peer mentoring is also being offered to S1 pupils.  We are very grateful to our S6 for the way they are positively engaging with our new S1 pupils.

S6 UCAS Personal Statement Support

The Careers Advisor will be running drop in sessions to support UCAS Personal Statements in the School Library next week. S6 pupils are encouraged to attend for support and guidance with structure and content.

Pupils will be able to see exemplars which will help them to create their own statement.

Black History Month

Today marks the start of Black History month – there will be lots happening round the school. More on this in next week’s update.

Sad news

I am sorry to share the sad news with you that former staff member, Arthur Biagi, passed away yesterday after a short illness.  Arthur gave 39 years of dedicated service to our school, initially as a Maths teacher, and for the majority of those years as PT Guidance Teacher/Year Head to Holy Rood pupils.  Arthur will be sorely missed.  We keep Arthur, his partner and all their many friends and family in our thoughts and prayers.

Face Coverings

Please continue to remind your child of bringing a face covering to school every day.  We are giving out a large number each day and this is not sustainable.  Pupils must wear a face covering in class and in all social areas, including corridors (unless exempt).   We remind everyone of ‘FACTS’:

  •  Coverings
  •  Crowded Places
  •  Your Hands Regularly
  •  Metre Distance
  •  /book a test if you have symptoms

LFD Testing

We recommend that pupils participate in Lateral Flow Testing twice weekly.  This is offered to all pupils during school hours:
S5/6 Mondays                         S1, S2, S4 Tuesdays               S3 Wednesdays

If your child is under the age of 16, you must complete a Consent Form and send into school with your child.

Safe Parking

Parents and carers are reminded to park safely and avoid pick up and drop off from the school car park.

Please follow our school Twitter account for further updates @HolyRoodRCHigh

Best wishes
