Dear Parents/Carers

It has been great to see pupils back for their first full week in school. Mr Scott and I have met with all S1 pupils in small groups and shared information regarding standards and expectations. Pupils have really impressed us with their positive attitude to learning and S1 are now starting to find their way round the building with relative ease! S5 pupils have now completed their Induction Programme, and in the coming week we will share information regarding S6 Committees and the many and varied leadership opportunities available for them in and around school.

In the coming weeks voting will get underway for the School Captaincy and S6 Leadership Team and S2, S3 and S4 pupils will be meeting with their Year Head. We will be sending out a consultation about Parents’ Meetings and Reporting. We hope as many families as possible are able to respond to this.

Health and Safety

A reminder to please ask your child to bring a face covering to school every day. It is important that all pupils wear a face covering in classes and all social areas, including corridors (unless exempt). We also ask that pupils sanitise their hands as they enter each new class and at the start of the day.

COVID Vaccinations

We strongly recommend all pupils over the age of 16 follow Public Health advice to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Please see the attached information letter aimed at young people and click on the link for vaccination centres https://www.nhslothian.scot/Coronavirus/Vaccine/Pages/Drop-in-Clinics.aspx

LFD Testing

We recommend that pupils participate in Lateral Flow Testing twice weekly. This is offered to all pupils during school hours:-

S5/6 Mondays S1, S2, S4 Tuesdays S3 Wednesdays

If your child is under the age of 16, you must complete a Consent Form and send into school with your child. If you provided a consent form for your child last school year, there is no need to complete a new form for this year.

School Renewal Planning

As we look to the year ahead, our 4 main areas of focus (in line with all Edinburgh schools) are:-

· Learning, Teaching and Assessment

· Health, Wellbeing and Resilience

· Equity and Inclusion

· Equalities

We will be meeting with senior pupils so that they can feed into this process and we would also appreciate feedback from our families.

ScotXed Data form

A reminder to return the ScotXed annual data form. Can you please check the information and return the form to school with any amendments by Friday 3 September?

Parent Council

The first Parent Council Meeting of the session will take place on Monday 6 September at 6pm on TEAMS. Current members will be sent an invitation to this meeting. S1 Parents please contact Admin@Holyrood.edin.sch.uk if you are interested in joining Parent Council. We would warmly welcome an S1 representative.

School Resources Amnesty

We ask that school textbooks, library books etc are returned to us. This includes if your child has resources which were used in the period of home learning and are no longer required. Textbooks are costly to replace and this puts a strain on school budgets so please support us with this!

Bike Security

Our School Bike Shed is opened before the start of the day and is generally locked around

8.50am – 9.00am. It remains locked all day and it is re-opened a few minutes before the pupils leave

school. Pupils are responsible for the security of their own bike. Please note that following the advice of Police Scotland, we recommend that all pupils use a D-LOCK (not a cable lock) in order to make sure that their bike is secure. We have negotiated a discount from Sustrans and we have a small stock of D-LOCKS available from reception at the discounted price of £10 (these usually retail at £27).

Please note that we will also keep D-Locks at reception for those pupils who forget their lock. We recommend that all pupils sign up on the following website https://www.bikeregister.com/

Please follow our school Twitter account for further updates @HolyRoodRCHigh

We wish you and your family an enjoyable weekend.

Best wishes

Joan Daly
