Here we are at the end of another busy week and hopefully you are looking forward to an extended weekend. Our staff are working tirelessly to provide all the support necessary for our pupils in their learning throughout the school and we are doing all we can to keep our senior phase pupils calm, focused and reassured.
Health and Safety
Please continue to remind pupils to bring a face covering to school and to wear it appropriately when in the building. The only exceptions are when eating or drinking in canteen or if exempt.
Water guns seem to have become very popular during the last week and have been causing some issues – please note they are not permitted in school. Your support in reinforcing positive messages regarding the high standards we expect throughout the school and on the campus, are very much appreciated.
Alternative Certification Model
As we approach the end of week 4 of the Senior Assessment Schedule, some teachers are planning second assessments if it is deemed necessary to generate further demonstrated attainment. If the teacher recognises that this would be of benefit to your child, a learner conversation will take place and adequate notice will be given. On Tuesday 25 May, teachers will work with colleagues in Holy Rood and schools across the Local Authority with a focus on moderation activities so that we make fair judgements on robust demonstrated evidence to arrive at pupils’ provisional grades. Internal quality assurance procedures are well underway.
Reminder – Return of School iPads
It is vital that all iPads borrowed during Lockdown are returned before the new devices can be given out. Please ensure that these are returned to school at the earliest opportunity. Please note that S4-6 pupils can keep the school Ipads until the assessments are completed but must return devices by the end of term. S6 pupils must return devices week beginning 7 June.
Reminder – Senior School Induction Days
For pupils who intend to return to school to complete a fifth or sixth year, the Induction Days are planned as follows:
S5 Induction Day Monday 14 June
S6 Induction Day Thursday 10 June
Our S6 pupils’ last day in Holy Rood is Friday 11 June. We have agreed with the S6 Leadership Team for two leavers’ masses to take place during the morning and we are delighted that Father Jock has agreed to celebrate the masses for us.
Important Information from Health Protection Lothian – Community Testing Almost 1 in 3 people infected with Covid-19 do not have any of the usual symptoms but are potentially passing on the virus unknowingly to their loved ones, friends, and others in the community. By getting tested you can find out if you are positive and self-isolate at home to stop spreading the virus to others. Even if you have been vaccinated, you are advised to go for a test as you may still carry and pass on the virus.
Rapid community testing will be offered for people with no COVID-19 symptoms at centres in areas of Edinburgh where case numbers of COVID-19 are or have been high. These will run from April 2021 for a minimum of six months.
Information from City of Edinburgh Council’s website indicates that community test centres are open for people with no symptoms at Gilmerton Library and Craigmillar Library.
