Dear Parents and Carers
I hope you and your families are well. It has been so good to see pupils back in school and engaged in face to face learning. It has also been very heartening to see them complying so well with health and safety measures. Pupils are doing brilliantly with wearing face coverings and following the health and safety advice, we feel so very proud of everyone!
We are now in a transition phase when pupils will be encouraged to complete a mixture of face to face and remote learning. S1-3 pupils will continue to attend one allocated full day per week and S4-6 pupils are on a 3-day rotation. This will continue up until the Easter holiday which begins on Friday 2 April. We are very grateful for all you are doing to encourage your child to complete tasks to the best of his/her ability whilst in school or at home.
A reminder that we would ask all those pupils who are learning at home to complete the daily remote learning attendance via a Form which will be available on MS TEAMS within the newly added registration section or via the school website.
We would ask that your child only attends the school campus on allocated days or if part of the Hub. This includes at lunch or break times and is in line with covid restrictions.
Pupil Focus Groups on Remote Learning
We very much enjoyed hearing from our S1-3 pupils about their experiences of remote learning so far. As we reflect on this period, it is important that we listen to our young people so that their views can inform our digital learning policy.
S1 Parents’ Meeting
The S1 Parents’ Meeting will take place on Wednesday 24 March from 4.30-6.30pm. Bookings opened on Thursday 18 March at 6.30pm and will remain open until Tuesday 23 March at 6.30pm, S1 parents have been emailed about arrangements.
Pupil Emails It remains important that pupils check school emails via Outlook on a daily basis, as well as checking for messages on Teams. Teachers and Year Heads often use this method of communication to share important information with pupils.
We are working hard to put a plan in place for the S4-6 assessments which will take place after the Easter break. More information regarding the timing of these assessments will be communicated prior to the break.
On the 15 March, the Parent Council was updated on the Report into Allegations of Racism and next steps for our school community as part of our School Renewal Action Plan. The AGM of the Parent Council will take place on Mon 26 April at 6pm on Teams. If you wish to attend, please email Admin@Holyrood.edin.sch.uk We do hope that some new parents and carers will be able to join us at this time.
SQA Appeals 2021 Consultation
The SQA has issued an Appeals 2021 Consultation on the Alternative Certification Model. Parents/Carers and learners can complete this by following the link – https://bit.ly/3cFuxhW
Over the past year, and despite the recent Lockdown, ten of our S2 pupils (Afifah Khan, Maja Nowak, Julia Gierasik, Mishaal Bibi, Abigail Downie, Geffry Gleno, Wajeeha Abbas, Ayaan Abbasi, Nikolas Aspreas, Kacper Peikut) have been working with Children’s Parliament as part of the Climate Change Assembly Project. Through workshop sessions, surveys and a final vote, our pupils shared their views on what Scotland was currently doing to tackle climate change, what their vision for Scotland in the future was, and what steps they thought needed to be taken to tackle this problem. You can view the final results, or ‘Calls to Action’, in full here https://youtu.be/vQ8uhnyJP3Q
It was a fantastic opportunity, and it was great to see how engaged our pupils have been with tackling the climate emergency – well done to all involved!
Pupil Success – Sky Poster Competition
S3 pupils studying Graphic Communication and Design & Manufacture had the opportunity to enter a national competition as part of their Home Learning. The brief was to design a poster to promote Apprenticeships within Sky as part of Apprenticeship Week. Below you can see two of the winning posters and Ailee Gormley’s poster was highly commended.
